Feature Bullets

  • Two Type-C (USB-C) downstream connectors. Up to 10Gbps data transfer speed, twice as fast as USB 3.0.
  • Low Profile board. Include both Low Profile and Regular Size PCIe brackets. PCIe x4 card fits in any PCIe 2.0 or PCIe 3.0 x4 or x8 or x16 slot.
  • Instead of taking 5V power directly from power supply, our design includes power switching regulator circuit that automatically converts 12V from PCIe bus or from 15-Pin SATA power to ensure sufficient 5V/3A bus power on each USB 3.1 Type C port.
  • No driver installation is required on MacOS X 10.9 to 10.10, and 10.12 to 10.13 (NOTE: does NOT work on OS X 10.11), Win10, 8.1, 8, and Server 2012. Driver download is available for 32/64 bit Windows 7/Vista, and Windows Server 2008/2003. Note: UASP featue is only available with Microsoft and MacOS built-in drivers. Currently, the ASMedia driver does not have UASP feature.
  • Built with ASMedia ASM2142. Fully RoHS compliant. Made in Taiwan. Note: The card does not support DP Alt Mode or USB Power Delivery.

Customer FAQ

Q 1 .   Could i boot off of an external drive connected to the usb-c port?
Answer:

PU31-2C-2 is built with ASMedia ASM2142. The BIOS of motherboard needs to be able to recognize and support the USB controller to be able to boot from there

Q 2 .   Is this compatible with a Mac? OSX 10.11 (El Capitan)
Answer:

It doesn’t work with Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) because OS X 10.11 built-in driver does not support XHCI 1.1.

Q 3 .   Is this compatible with Mac OSX 10.13 High Sierra?
Answer:

Yes, the adapter works with Mac OS X 10.13 and 10.12, and previous versions from 10.9 to 10.10. It does NOT work with OS X 10.11 because the built-in drivers exclude support for XHCI 1.1.

Q 4 .   What is the SATA power connector for? Does it require to be connected?
Answer:

The 15-pin SATA power connection is optional. It depends on the USB devices/applications whether to get the SATA power connected to PC power supply. Each USB port can provide up to 5V/2A power. If full loaded each USB port, it requires at least 2 (ports) * 10W (5V*2A) = 20W power. Per PCI Express specification, the power supplied from PCIe bus to a 4-lane/low profile card is 10W (max). Therefore, it requires additional power source such as SATA power from PC power supply.
