Q 1 .   What is the SATA power connector for? Does it require to be connected?
Answer:

If full load each USB port, it requires at least 7 (ports) * 5W (5V*1A) = 35W power.Per PCI Express specification, the power supplied from PCIe bus to a 1-lane/low profile card is 10W (max). Therefore, it requires additional power source such as SATA power from PC power supply.
